How-to-Say Guide: Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity
The words are the hard part. Here are three you can borrow.
-
Offering support without singling someone out
How to say it "I want to make sure everyone can do their best work here. If there's anything I can adjust or do differently to make things easier for you, please let me know, I'm happy to help."
-
Responding when someone discloses a neurodivergent condition
How to say it "Thank you for telling me. I want to make sure we set things up in a way that works for you, can we find some time to talk through what would help most?"
-
Addressing stimming or visible behaviour in a group setting
How to say it "Everyone works and focuses differently here, that's completely normal. If you have a way of working that helps you concentrate, you're welcome to use it."
